Giving Grades in Philosophy for Children Classes

Abstract

Introduction:  In the teaching of philosophy for children, we are - in the matter of grading - generally in the position of saying one thing and doing another.  We commonly discourage teachers from instituting a marking system and giving students grades regularly for their work in philosophy classes.  For our part, however, we do not do as we say.  Teachers are generally graded for their work in Philosophy for Children courses.  They may question this practice, though in my experience, that has rarely been the case.  The teachers, in fact, take their grading more for granted than do I.
