Abstract

Introduction: Philosophy for Children, at least in the United States, appears to be at a standstill with regard to new program adoptions. This paper explores one possible reason for the lack of the growth of the program, that is, its isolation from other programs and movements that are "kindred spirits" but which for one reason or another are put off by Philosophy for Children or, more positively, that Philosophy for Children has not yet reached. While Philosophy for Children has been successful within the thinking skills programs and specifically within the informal logic movement, it has not been accepted within the larger and more teacher accessible movement of the whole language movement.
