Abstract

Introduction:  The views expressed in this paper reflect a professional lifetime spent in education, as a teacher and teacher trainer in Liverpool for twenty years, as one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors of Schools in Wales for eighteen years, and now, at what may be my final remove, as head of Education and Humanities in the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education, Wrexham.
